Welcome to the Fortune of War, a pub that holds more than 190 years of history and an enviable reputation for warm traditional service. Pull up a stool at our charming historic hamper bar and indulge in hearty pub fare along with a pint from our wide selection of local and imported beers – linger on an old favourite or sip something new, all the while listening to pub classics with live music Wednesday to Sundays.

For a more intimate dining experience try our new Fortune of War Lock Up next door at 127 George St where the old-world charm meets modern with a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

FORTUNE OF WAR LOCK UP

Fortune of War Lock Up, located at 127 George Street is an imposing sandstone building with thick columns and ornate detailing in which Fortune of War, the oldest pub in Sydney, has now opened a venue that holds our history and reputation with a fascinating combination of who we are now after 190 years of operation.

It’s the perfect spot for a casual lunch or a fun night out, but visitors to 127 didn’t always have such a good time. In the late 1800s this building was a police station in the infamous Little Canton Area. The dining rooms, kitchens and cocktail nooks may look like a place to have a great time now but they were once holding cells, change rooms, muster rooms and police offices!

Hearty pub fare is served daily from 11:30 am, with a different selection of wines, beers and cocktails for a perfect day out.

ALFRESCO AREA

Welcome to our alfresco area! The perfect spot to enjoy Sydney’s oldest colonial suburb, The Rocks. Sandstone historical buildings, quiet courtyards, and cobbled laneways is what you’ll find.

Sit back, sip on your favourite drink and enjoy spectacular views of Sydney Harbour Bridge looming over this historic district.
